More than a mere heart throb in Ice Castles, Ode to Billy Joe, and his own screenplay for the Warner Bros. basketball classic, One on One, Robby Benson is a two time Golden Globe nominated actor who starred in projects with Paul Newman, Jack Lemmon, Burt Reynolds, Gene Hackman, Ossie Davis, George Burns, Maximillian Schell and Rod Steiger.

The cover of USA Today said “Robby Benson lifts Beauty and the Beast to Oscar heights” when he voiced Beast in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, the first animated film ever to receive a Best Picture Academy Award Nomination.

Director of Film and over 100 television episodes and pilots. Producer of Film and Television. Most recently he co-starred in Peter Tolan’s 2011 comedy pilot Brave New World for Sony/NBC.

Broadway Star. Received RIAA Gold Records for song writing. Film soundtrack composer. Open Heart, his original musical opened off Broadway at The Cherry Lane Theatre and is published by Samuel French (2006).

Robby’s Who Stole the Funny? A Novel of Hollywood (HarperCollins) made the best-seller list of the LA Times in 2007.

Robby new book I’M NOT DEAD… YET! is a medical memoir of surviving four open-heart surgeries for a congenital valve defect while forging ahead with a dynamic career in and out of Hollywood…to help patients and loved ones through open heart surgery with knowledge and humor. A Professor of Film at NYU’s famed Tisch School of the Arts in the Maurice Kanbar Institute of Film and Television, Robby Benson received the honor of being nominated for both New York University’s Distinguished Teaching Award in 2006, and the David Payne-Carter Award for Teaching Excellence in 2010.
