Robby, I just finished the book and am awestruck. I laughed, I teared up, I fumed, and I grinned. I was amazed at all that you and your family have endured. What a blessing Karla has been to you! Your book is well written and in a format that I very much enjoyed. Robby and Karla, continued success and health to your whole family!

Robby Benson is to literature the same way he did in his performances. With honesty, warmth, and humor when it isn`t expected. This is one of the most beautiful writings on a persons love of life and fighting to stay in it. For anyone who faces the odds, and for those who don`t, it`s a dynamic story. My sincere best to Robby and Karla. L’Chaim !!!

Dear Mr. Benson: I’m a college classmate of Cliff. Had a Cabgx4 a few years ago (53 years young at that time). Glad to hear/see that you can exercise your mind by writing a book. Looking forward to reading your travels in what they call modern medicine…Just don’t let the black dog (see Winston Churchill) get into your head. Need a break? Live near a beach on the Georgia coast. Loggerheads laying eggs this month on the beach. Have two kayaks for the marshes and PURE relaxation. Secluded. Great family fun for all ages. Been coming here for 32 years. Keep up on the recovery!!!! Best of health to you and the rest of the family, LarrytheK

Thank you for this gift. Robby has had quite a journey. My husband and I are facing yet another of his surgeries soon. This beautiful work has helped to calm us and know that we are not alone. A book we will always cherish — we are so very grateful.

I loved this book, and how could I not? The multi-media concept is brilliant, and works on so many levels, visceral, emotional, and intellectual. The overall effect is simply sublime.

I was predisposed to like this book because I admire Robby Benson, both as an actor and as a human being. What surprised me is how riveting his writing is – starting with behind-the-scenes anecdotes from film, tv, and theatre, to what he’s been through medically, and how he continues to grow from these experiences. Grounded by his family, and his sense of humor, he writes from the heart. A must read.

Hi!
I just finished your book and I am full of so many emotions and feelings. Mostly you have inspired me. I made my career choice at 14, knowing I had to become a nures if I was going to take care of my mother who had suffered a massive MI right in front of me. As I read your book, I could relate to so many of you challenges and experiences. I lived them along side my beloved mother, as your devoted and loving family has with you. I commend your spirit, kindness, and devotion to all you have accomplished and overcome in your young years. I’m a shy 10 years younger… But feel so old inside sometimes. I know my soul mate and late mother, she passed on March 18th 2010, would have loved your book and your humanity.
I send my thoughts and prayers to you and your loved ones always. Kristy Carr, RN

I laughed, I cried, I smiled, I cheered! A truly amazing and informative account of Robby’s life and the lifelong challenges he has faced with his heart health issues. Robby did a brilliant job of interweaving his personal experiences with the actual medical process of heart surgery to make it an easy read. It is the perfect melding of lighthearted incidents, combined with an honest look at the world of medicine today – both it’s shortcomings and it’s advances and how this affects all of us who find ourselves in a similar situation – both as patients and caregivers.
It provided my partner and I with hope and courage while we face a similar life crisis. As a patient advocate for my significant other I also took away an incredible amount of information about how I, too, can make sure that I am doing the best I can to make sure that my partner get the best care he deserves. I turned the last page feeling like I was privileged to share Robby’s life story. He has truly had a fascinating and courageous journey. Thank you Robby! Thank you Karla!
Highly recommended!
